Mr John Mebberson – BSc, MSc (Qual), MAICD

Mr Mebberson graduated from University of Sydney in Geology and worked for Esso Australia Ltd from 1970 to 1992 in various geological and management positions covering Bass Strait, Cooper-Eromanga, Canning and Perth Basins, the Timor Sea and US Gulf Coast, and including five years as Gippsland Basin Exploration Supervisor. From 1992 to 1999, he consulted to the oil and gas industry in Australia and overseas, again in the Gippsland Basin, the Australian North-West Shelf and Southeast Asia. He joined Roc Oil in 1998 as a Senior Explorationist, concentrating on Mongolia and West and North African assets, then as Perth Basin Project Coordinator from February 2002. From 2003 he was Regional Manager for exploration assets in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Mr Mebberson was appointed General Manager, Exploration, responsible for world-wide exploration and geoscience activities, from May 2007 until late 2010, when he returned to consulting to industry. He is a Past President of the NSW Branch of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia and Meritorious Service Award holder, and a long-time member of AAPG.



Mr Chris Carty – BSc (Hons), GAICD

Mr Carty has a wide range of international and domestic experience spanning more than 40 years in the upstream oil and gas business. Having trained as a geophysicist he began his career with Esso Australia, where he supervised offshore seismic acquisition around Australia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and Vietnam.  He then moved to the USA and joined Mobil Oil where he was involved in offshore seismic data acquisition, interpretation and prospect generation in the Gulf of Mexico.  He spent 15 years in the USA successfully exploring throughout the United States and Central and South America.  He returned to Australia as Exploration Team Leader for Bridge Oil in charge of the offshore Browse Basin and Timor Sea, where he contributed to the discovery of the giant Bayu-Undan gas-condensate field.  Since then he has been exploration manager for Capital Energy, Stirling Resources and Eastern Star Gas and consulted to a number of other companies, including New Zealand Oil and Gas and Santos.  He has developed an in-depth working knowledge of seismic, drilling and production operations in the Australasia region.  He joined Great Artesian in 2005 where, in the varying roles of Exploration Manager, Chief Operating Officer and Technical Director, he was responsible for a number of oil and gas discoveries in the company’s permits on the western margin of the Cooper Basin.   Since 2009 he has been working as an independent petroleum consultant to a number of industry clients. He is a member of PESA, ASEG, SEG and AICD.
